Thanks, Sleazy
It's true that heartbreak and loss can be some of the greatest muses, but since the death of John Balance and resulting cessation of Coil, Sleazy Christopherson has really been on a tear. Of course there's the Throbbing Gristle reunion that has been going very strong. Then there's SoiSong, the IDM collab with the also-brilliant Russian dude whose name escapes me. And the one that I'd previously been paying less attention to, Threshold House Boys' Choir.
He debuted a new song at the Equinox Festival and I don't really know what to say about it. It brought tears, spontaneously. I wouldn't say it's explicitly a "happy" song, but it brings such a strong feeling that it can only be that same magic that powered Coil's best work. I don't doubt the psycho-effects of Time Machines, and I don't doubt the existence of spirits or that everything will be ok, at least for the short time that this song plays. Get the set at Wassonii, and check out the vids on YouTube as well.
EDIT: According to Sleazy's blog, this thing is an effected version of a singing Lama's chant record. I dunno, I went and listened to the original tune. Hm. Slick, new-agey production that you might find hanging around John Tesh's house might do it for Sleazy, but for some reason the obscured sound and his off-pitch, effected vocals put it together in a new light. Or maybe it's the story of him listening to the original on the train (with a celebrity twist). Anyway. Check it out, I have high hopes for Sleazy, who seems to have experienced quite the creative resurgence.
